Best comedy clubs in Chicago

“Cheezzzbooger, Cheezzzebooger, Cheeezzzebooger! PEPSI – NO COKE!” The infamous words of the Greek owner of well known Chicago hamburger joint – and subject of a popular skit on Saturday Night Live.

And just like pizza, Italian beef and hot dogs with NO KETCHUP allowed Chicago is home to the original and worlds finest Comedy Theater as well. This famous comedy school was instrumental in the idea and creation of the ever popular comedy show “Saturday Night Live” and is a major “fuel source” for the shows talented comedians.

THE SECOND CITY CHICAGO.

Definitely the best in the United States and most likely the World as well. Just some of the alumni of this theater include great comedians such as Mike Myers, John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, John Candy, Chris Farley, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and Martin Short.

Second City Chicago opened in mid December 1959 at 1842 North Wells Street. It originally was intended to be a coffeehouse. Adding a live show, a beer garden and silent movies to the coffeehouse was the “birthing bed” of the Second City Chicago Theater as we know it today.

It’s popularity comes from the fact that all the actors create, write and perform their own work. The theater specializes in Improvisational training and the actors work in an ensemble or troop instead of stand up one at a time type comedy. These strict requirements and performing within a group dynamic means only the best of the best will survive – and makes those that do much sought after by Live TV shows like SNL where its crucial that the actors can “think on their feet” in a moments notice.

1) Eat real pizza at least twice

2) Wander around the lake front

3) Go to Second City for a show

In my entire life I have only laughed so hard I actually cried from it on 3 occasions. Once when my big bad boyfriend thought he saw a ghost on a walk through the forest preserve at night. He was in front of me on a path in the dark forest – stopped dead in his tracks – let out a high pitched scream (loud enough mind you to wake the dead!)turned on his heels and shot right past me back down the path and out of the woods in terror – still screaming.

The only problem however was that My Cowardly
