Best breakfasts in Chicago

If you’re doing research on breakfast places in Chicago, then you’re looking for more than the average pancake house breakfast. You’re looking for something unique, something different, a particular ambiance perhaps, or a distinct bit of Chicago; or maybe just something you can’t get back home. Without a doubt, Chicago has what you’re looking for; below are the best destination breakfast spots in the windy city.

ANN SATHER’S

909 W. Belmont

Chicago, IL 60657

(773) 348-2378

www.annsather.com

Ann Sather’s is a Chicago institution. This Swedish breakfast restaurant used to be one of many, but it is the sole survivor of an era when Swedish breakfast houses dotted every neighborhood in Chicago. Ann opened the restaurant in 1945 when she bought a diner on Belmont Avenue. She learned to make each of her renowned recipes from scratch, and this attention to detail is maintained to this day. Don’t miss the cinnamon rolls; they’re legendary in Chicago. The weekend brunch can get quite busy, but if you arrive before 11am you’ll have no problem. Eating at Ann Sather’s is participating in a Chicago tradition; you will be joining with people from all walks of life to enjoy great food at a good price. Breakfast will set you back between $7 and $12 per person, and if people-watching is a past-time you enjoy, then breakfast at Ann Sather’s won’t disappoint!

LOU MITCHELL’S RESTAURANT

65 W Jackson Blvd

Chicago, IL 60661

(312) 939-3111

Lou Mitchell’s serves “the world’s finest cup of coffee” if you’re a connoisseur of diner coffee you won’t want to miss Lou Mitchell’s. With a history dating back to 1923, this restaurant has served enough eggs to circle the world several times! Donut holes and milk duds help to tide you over while you wait to be seated. Breakfast is served all day, and you can expect the standard fare. The food is all that you’d expect from the quintessential American diner and the prices are very reasonable as well. If you haven’t been able to fit Lou’s into your schedule, try stopping by their Express location at O’Hare International Airport.

ORANGE

3231 N. Clark St.

Chicago, IL 60657

(773) 549-4400

Orange is Chicago’s finest contemporary breakfast spot. The theme, as you might have guessed, is orange and their inventive twists on breakfast classics will be a hit with your taste buds! The refreshing scent of orange will greet you at the door, but during peak hours it may be awhile
